About the Bloomington Old Time Music & Dance Group

BOTMDG is dedicated to fostering the growth and development of Old Time musicians, callers, and dancers in a nurturing and friendly atmosphere.

BOTMDG is a non-profit organization that is run entirely through the efforts of volunteers -- your help is always needed and welcome!

BOTMDG is one of the oldest groups of its kind in the country. Every Wednesday evening BOTMDG convenes for live Old Time fiddle, New England, and Irish dance tunes. Callers lead contra, square, and occasionally English set dancing. This type of dance has a devout and enthusiastic following around the world.

Are you new to contra dancing? Part of the fun of contra dancing is that it is challenging and requires some learning. If you have experience with square dancing though, you'll already be familiar with many of the dance calls used in contra dancing. Most new dancers find this takes several weeks of attending the dance, but once you know the moves, you've got it for good! New dancers do best when they seek out experienced dance partners while they are learning. And, experienced dancers are always encouraged to seek out partners who are new dancers.

BOTMDG childcare responsibilities at Harmony School. You are most welcome to bring your children with you to BOTMDG dances. However, please remember that you are responsible for them while they're at the dance. We are obligated to Harmony School not to allow your children to roam the hallways and stairwells unchaperoned nor left unattended. Childcare at Harmony School can be arranged via Harmony School if requested well in advance.
